In preparation for this subject, over the summer holidays I made a blog so that i'd be familiar with the layout of a blog, and how to get the best out of it :)
I've really enjoyed using this as it enabled me to make posts about things that in 20 or 30 years time I won't remember doing. By posting it on the blog, I have a virtual reminder to what I did all that time ago!

Assignment #5: Self Assessment.
ASSESMENT OF ASSIGNMENT 5 : Inspirational Scenes From Films.
Self Assessment: | In this assignment, I think WWW was… - I had a wide-range of films that I found inspirational. - I had a variety of images to support the points I was making. - I labelled my images, and made it clear what was inspirational about the images. In this assignment, it would have been EBI... - If I had focused on specific scenes that I found inspirational, instead of focusing on things in scenes that were inspirational to me. |
Record of Grade: | In this assignment I would have graded myself with a grade B because it was clear, well presented and well labelled. I had a good variety of images and films. Also, I had a small range of stills from within the films that demonstrated the points I was making. I received a grade B-. |
Targets to improve: | To improve on this assignment I need to focus on scenes rather than aspects of a scene. |
Teacher Assessment: | (see above) |
Peer Assessment: | N/A. |
Any additional drafts: | N/A. |
Assignment #5: Inspirational Scenes From Films
We looked at various ways that films can be inspiring, and then we were given an assignment that required us to pick our our favourite and most inspirational scenes from films. The ones I picked are quite odd as they are from all different genres. :)

Let The Right One In - Films in class/ Film club
Title: Let The Right One In Genre: Drama/Fantasy/Romance
Today in film club, I watched Let The Right One In. It is about a young boy named Oskar who is bullied. He finds a friend in the strange but delightful Eli who isn't what she seems.
From this film I learned about how important props and make up are. Throughout this film, make up and props become increasingly important and I noted this down for future reference whilst making my own opening sequence.
From the film I was inspired by the make up used to make seemingly innocent Eli more frightening with the use of fake blood and make up to make her look paler.

Self Assessment: | In this assignment, I think WWW was… - I did the majority of what was required. - I had well chosen print screens of both of the opening sequences I compared and contrasted. Assignment #1: Self Assessment.
ASSESMENT OF ASSIGNMENT 1 : Blog Analysis.
Self Assessment: | In this assignment, I think WWW was… - I included good print screens of the two blogs. - I explained what made the level 4 blog better than the level 1 blog. In this assignment, it would have been EBI… - I should have included more print screens. - I could've gone into deeper detail about the good and bad points of each blog. |
Record of Grade: | In this assignment I would have graded myself with a grade C because I didn't give enough depth with my points. I received a grade B. |
Targets to improve: | To improve on this assignment I need to include more screen shots of both blogs stating what worked effectively and what didn't. I could comment on the design of the blog and which presentation style worked better.I could've talked more about how they were labelled and the use of images throughout instead of focusing on a small part of the blog that worked well. |

Assignment #1: Blog Analysis
I compared two blogs. One blog was a level 4 ( A grade) and the other was a level 1 (U grade).
The differences between the two are evident.
The U grade blog, firstly has less posts, suggesting the person perhaps puit less hours and effort into the media project. Secondly, the posts that were made were mainly video's and powerpoints with some explanation about how/why they were there and for what purpose.
The A grade blog had many posts and each explained some aspect of the media course, there were pictures as you went along it and you could see that much effort had gone into the presentation of the blog. As I scrolled through this blog, I could see bit by bit how the production of the two minute clip went, with images of obstacles they had to overcome in order to achieve the final piece.

First Impressions
Why did you take media?
I enjoy films and activities surrounding media, so I decided to take it as a subject to peek behind the scenes at the effort that takes place to create the films I enjoy watching.
What were your English GCSE grades (literature and language)?
For English Literature, I got a grade B.
For English Language, I got a grade A.
What do you like about films?
I like them because they are entertaining and I like seeing stories develop on screen. Its fun to watch charecters and storylines expand before your eyes and its like you have a birds eye view of a character's life during the film.
What do you think of the course so far?So far, the course has been interesting, but i can't wait to get further into the course.
What do you want to achieve in media studies?
In media studies, i'd like to achieve a good grade and a deeper background knowledge and appreciation for the films that i watch in my day to day life that inspire me constantly.
